The person behind the site
Alexander DEVYS
Dream Analyst · Founder of WhatIDreamt.com

There’s a moment most people recognize: you wake up, heart still racing, from a dream so vivid it felt real, and you spend the first ten minutes of your day trying to figure out what it meant. Maybe it was a snake. Maybe your teeth were falling out. Maybe you were being chased through a city you didn’t recognize.

I started WhatIDreamt.com because the resources available in English were either too shallow (“a snake means transformation”) or too narrow (purely Freudian, purely religious, or purely pop psychology). None of them offered what I believed was necessary: a serious, multi-perspective analysis that holds the symbol up to the light and turns it slowly.

The Three-Lens Approach

Every article on this site examines a dream symbol through three distinct frameworks, applied systematically, not selectively.

01
Jungian & Western Psychology

Carl Jung, Sigmund Freud, Marie-Louise von Franz, and Robert Johnson form the psychological backbone of each analysis. The shadow, the anima, the archetype, the compensatory function of dreams: these are tools, not dogmas. I apply them carefully and always note where specialists disagree.

02
Islamic Dream Tradition

Ibn Sirin’s classical work remains the most referenced Islamic authority on dream interpretation. This tradition is almost entirely absent from English-language dream resources, despite the fact that millions of English-speaking Muslims actively seek it. WhatIDreamt.com covers it on every symbol, systematically.

03
African Symbolic Traditions

Yoruba, Dogon, Akan, Fulani, Fon: these are not monolithic. African dream symbolism varies by culture, region, and ethnic group. I research each tradition separately and always note the distinctions, avoiding the reductive trap of treating “Africa” as a single symbolic system.

Editorial Standards

No source on this site is invented. No expert is fictional. Every psychological reference traces back to a published work. Every Islamic interpretation references Ibn Sirin directly. And every article closes with the same honest reminder: a dream can simply be a dream. Stress, fatigue, what you watched before bed. The meaning, if there is one, is yours to decide.

A note on interpretation
WhatIDreamt.com does not provide medical, psychological, or religious advice. Dream interpretation is a reflective tool, not a diagnostic one. If recurring dreams are causing significant distress, please consult a qualified mental health professional.
